Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

The methods used in non-destructive testing do not affect the properties or condition of the inspected asset. Conducting an expert assessment ensures safe operating conditions, helps prevent injuries and property damage, and mitigates environmental risks.

Types of NDT testing and inspections

UT - ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT, SWUT, UT-SCAN)

Classic ultrasonic technique for detecting internal material defects (inclusions, cracks, sticking, etc.) in welded joints, forgings and castings.

ULTRASONIC THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS (UTM)

These measurements are fundamental for effective assessment of the structural integrity in various industries, from offshore and shipbuilding to energy and petrochemicals.

PAUT - PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONIC TESTING (PAUT)

This allows a single scan to cover a large material volume from multiple angles, generating a detailed cross-sectional image. PAUT results are recorded digitally, providing permanent documentation similar to a radiograph in RT.

UT – CORROSION MAPPING

Corrosion Mapping using Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is a non-destructive method that scans the material thickness with ultrasonic waves. Unlike traditional point-by-point measurements, this technique provides a comprehensive visual representation of thickness distribution in the tested asset, which is essential for detecting corrosion losses.

TOFD – ULTRASONIC TESTING

The inspection employs two broadband angled longitudinal wave probes in a transmitter-receiver configuration. The probes detect diffracted echoes generated at the edges of material discontinuities. In defect-free material, two waves are received: the lateral wave (traveling just below the surface) and the back-wall reflection.

RT – RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING (Se-75, Ir-192)

RT is a highly versatile method applicable to various materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast steel, cast iron, aluminum, ceramics, wood, rubber, plastics, and concrete. The method allows for the detection of internal discontinuities as well as density variations within the tested object.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY (DR)

Digital radiography uses high-sensitivity digital detectors to record radiation passing through the tested object. The resulting image is immediately processed and displayed on a computer screen, allowing for instant structural integrity assessment. Key benefits of the digital technique include significantly shorter exposure times and reduced radiation doses, which reduce exposure to ionizing radiation and therefore enhance workplace safety.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY CORROSION MAPPING

Corrosion mapping via digital radiography involves exposing the examined asset to ionizing radiation and analyzing the resulting image. The image is captured by a digital detector and then analyzed using dedicated software. Following PN-EN ISO 20769-1:2018-12 and PN-EN ISO 20769-2:2018-12 standards, this method allows for the precise assessment of corrosion losses both on the outside and inside of the tested assets. The inspection can be performed without removing insulation and on operating equipment.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING (MT)

This technique is based on locally magnetizing the inspection area and observing the distribution of magnetic particles, which accumulate at disruptions in the magnetic field—such as cracks, seams, and other structural defects.

PENETRANT TESTING (PT)

Penetrant Testing (PT) is one of the fundamental non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, used to detect surface discontinuities in materials with smooth, non-porous structures. The technique involves applying a special liquid (penetrant) that seeps into surface-breaking defects such as cracks, porosity, laps, or incomplete fusion.

VISUAL TESTING (VT) AND VIDEOBORESCOPY (VTE)

For structures with limited access, we perform indirect visual inspections using tools such as mirror sets, borescopes, telescopic mirrors, and video endoscopes (VTe). Video borescopy allows for remote inspection of internal surfaces in complex-geometry components—such as pipelines, heat exchangers, valves, pressure chambers, or machinery parts.

EDDY CURRENT TESTING (ET)

The inspection involves introducing an alternating magnetic field into the tested material. This induces eddy currents in the material, which are disrupted in the presence of discontinuities. These disturbances affect the impedance of the probe, which is recorded and analyzed by the ET flaw detector.

LEAK TESTING (LT)

The test is performed by applying a foaming solution to the surface being inspected and then creating a pressure difference between the interior of the asset and the surrounding environment. If a leak is present, gas escaping through the defect forms visible bubbles in the solution that are visible with the unaided eye.

LEAK TESTING (PT)

Penetrant leak testing is used for inspecting the tightness of: thin-walled tanks and hermetic enclosures, welded joints in pressure equipment, enclosures and objects with limited internal access, as well as components in the chemical, food, energy, and precision industries.

LEAK TESTING (ULT)

The test is performed by placing an ultrasonic transmitter inside the tested object, which emits high-frequency sound waves. On the outside, the operator uses a receiver to detect waves passing through any potential leaks.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION TESTING (PMI SPECTROMETRY)

Depending on the applied technology, different spectrometric methods may be used, such as X-ray fluorescence analysis, optical emission analysis, or laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. The measurement results are presented as the percentage breakdown of individual elements.

FERRITE CONTENT MEASUREMENT (FT)

Ferrite Content Measurement (FT) is a non-destructive method used to determine the ferrite phase balance in weld metal, base materials, and weld cladding of austenitic stainless steels and duplex steels. This inspection enables the determination of ferrite levels expressed either in ferrite percentage (Fe%) or as a ferrite number (FN).

HARDNESS TESTING (HT)

The test involves pressing a specially designed indenter into the surface of the material under a defined load. After removing the load, the dimensions of the resulting indentation are measured. Hardness tests can be performed using portable hardness testers or stationary testing devices.

ASSET INTEGRITY & TECHNICAL CONDITION ASSESSMENT

Depending on the characteristics of the examined asset, both volumetric and surface testing techniques are applied. The purpose is to identify potential material discontinuities, such as cracks or corrosion, which may compromise structural integrity and operational safety.

PETROCHEMICAL / FUEL INDUSTRY
Refineries, petrochemical plants, fuel terminals. We carry out NDT on pressure infrastructure such as pipelines, storage tanks, and other installations.

ENERGY AND GAS INDUSTRY
Combined heat and power plants, hydroelectric plants, and gas companies. NDT is performed on pressure infrastructure, including transmission pipelines. Services cover gas networks, LNG installations, inspection of pipelines, transmission stations, and valves and fittings for corrosion and leaks, as well as testing welded joints on new-build pipelines and fittings. We also perform inspections of gas tanks (e.g., LPG storage tanks).

SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY  CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF VESSELS
We provide NDT services in the shipbuilding sector. Ultrasonic thickness measurements are carried out on hull structures and components. NDT inspections are performed on welded joints during the construction of new vessels.

OFFSHORE INDUSTRY
Drilling platforms, offshore wind farms, and other marine structures require regular inspections. We conduct NDT on offshore constructions to detect fatigue cracks, corrosion losses, and other damage.

CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
NDT is applied to both new-build installations as well as operational inspections of existing facilities. Performing the tests in operational conditions helps plan maintenance work and reduces the likelihood of unplanned downtime.

FOOD INDUSTRY
Using digital radiography, we evaluate the integrity of insulated pipelines to detect corrosion and internal scaling. Testing can be conducted on live, operational installations.

WOOD AND PAPER INDUSTRY
NDT is applied to both new-build and existing installations. Conducting these inspections enables better maintenance planning and minimizes the risk of costly operational interruptions.
