LEAK TESTING (ULT)

Ultrasonic leak testing (ULT) allows for rapid and effective detection of leaks around cable passages, doors, windows, hatch covers, and manholes. The method is based on detecting ultrasonic waves passing through leaks, enabling precise localization of defects.

Principle of Operation

The test is performed by placing an ultrasonic transmitter inside the tested object, which emits high-frequency sound waves. On the outside, the operator uses a receiver to detect waves passing through any potential leaks. A major advantage of this technique is that it can be applied regardless of weather conditions. Performing the inspection requires appropriate control equipment and properly trained operators.

Applications of ULT Leak Testing

The ultrasonic method is used to inspect the tightness of: doors, windows, hatch covers, manholes, cable passageways, storage and pressure tanks, as well as pipelines and industrial installations. It is especially valuable when access to the tested surface is one-sided, and other inspection methods are difficult to apply or impractical.

Preparation for Testing

Before testing, the surface must be meticulously prepared—cleaned of contaminants, degreased, and dried. The inspection includes placing the ultrasonic transmitter inside the object, scanning the external surface with the receiver, and analyzing the signal intensity to locate and assess the size of any leaks.
